Community Pet Days

The Town of Clayton Police Department is launching its first Community Pet Days to help families provide care for their pets.

On Sunday, April 28 and Oct. 6 at Municipal Park, the Town and local vets will offer low-cost rabies shots and microchips to the public, as well as some free vaccines, offered through a grant program sponsored by Petco Love.

The events will feature $5 rabies shots, $10 microchipping, and free vaccines for cats and dogs that protect against a variety of illnesses. No other veterinary services are sponsored at these events.

"Pet care is not cheap. Between housing, food and other necessary medical expenses and it can become overwhelming," said Clayton Animal Control Officer Patrick Kostka. "We want to help, so we’re organizing these Community Pet Days to offer a helping hand to our citizens, human and furry alike. After all, our community's well-being includes our animal companions too."

Pet days are scheduled on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.:

April 28 at Municipal Park, 325 McCullers Drive
Oct. 6 at Municipal Park, 325 McCullers Drive

The following services will be provided:

Rabies Shots: 1-year or 3-year vaccines are offered at a cost of $5 (cash only)
Microchipping: $10
DHPP 4-in-1 (a combination vaccination for dogs): No-cost
FVRCP 3-in-1 (a combination vaccination for cats): No-cost
The upcoming Community Pet Days are being offered by the Clayton Police Department in collaboration with Petco and with local veterinarians Dr. April Ward from Heal House Call Veterinarians and Dr. Rebecca Barnes from JoCo Mobile Vet.

The event will happen rain or shine. Pet owners are encouraged to bring all applicable paperwork and to follow leash laws while at the park. Current rabies records must be presented to vet staff at the time of service to receive the 3-year rabies vaccination.

Pets with a tendency to behave defensively or reactively around other animals or people are still eligible to receive services. They should either be contained in a vehicle or carrier until it is time for their services or wear a muzzle during the event.
